Biography
London welcomed Richard Willis on 15 October 1876, and before the city’s fog had cleared he was already spinning stories and stepping onto makeshift stages. By 1914 he had traded the Thames for klieg lights, scripting and appearing in *The Last Chapter*, a one-reel reminder that endings can be beginnings. A year later he wagered everything on *The High Hand*, then dove into the folkloric swirl of *Lorelei of the Sea* in 1917, proving his pen and presence were equally at home on both sides of the camera. The journey ended far from his birthplace, under the perpetual sunshine of Los Angeles, when he drew his final breath on 8 April 1945.
