Biography
Munich greeted the winter morning of 15 January 1880 with crisp air and the first cry of Rita Sacchetto, the girl who would grow up to paint stories with her body on stage and screen. A dancer’s grace carried her into silent cinema, where she haunted three early classics: the plague-shadowed tale *During the Plague* (1913), the morbidly titled Danish drama *En Død i Skønhed* (1915), and the shimmering romance *Den skønne Evelyn* (1916). Off-set she traded pirouettes for paragraphs, publishing her own prose while sharing her life—and last name—with Polish count and artist August Zamoyski. Seventy-nine winters later, on 18 January 1959, the Ligurian sea breeze of Nervi, Italy, closed the curtain on her final act.
