Biography
Hagerstown, Maryland, welcomed Roy L. McCardell on 30 June 1870, and from that small-city springboard he launched himself into the churning worlds of stage and screen. Pen and performances carried him: his words helped shape the vamp classic A Fool There Was (1915), his plots tightened the thriller The Evil Eye (1920), and his wit accessorized the comedy Ladies Love Hats (1935). Actor, scenarist, chronicler of early Hollywood—McCardell kept working until the curtain rang down in 1961.
