Biography
Louisville, Kentucky, greeted Rupert Sargent Holland on 15 October 1878, and from that first cry he seemed destined to feed paper rather than cotton. Before the world blazed into the Great War, he conjured the lantern-lit suspense of *The Night Riders of Petersham* (1914); two years later he steered a heroine through genteel peril in *The Winning of Sally Temple* (1917). Words kept him company until 3 May 1952, when he closed his final chapter in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.
