Biography
Born within the clang of London’s docks on 2 August 1874, Sidney Morgan traded the smell of Bermondsey tar for the smell of celluloid and greasepaint. Between 1916 and 1937 he steered more than forty stories to the screen—among them the torrid Temptation’s Hour, the night-lit romance A Window in Piccadilly, and the swinging backstage caper The Melody Maker. Off-set he wrote, rewrote, and, alongside his wife Evelyn Morgan, built a creative partnership that lasted until the final curtain. He died quietly on 11 June 1946 in the seaside hush of Boscombe, leaving London’s roar far behind but still echoing through the reels he left behind.
