Biography

Newark-on-Trent greeted the world to Thomas William Robertson on 1 September 1829, and before London closed the curtain on him in 1871, he had spun stories that refused to die. His quill conjured the stage hit David Garrick—first electrifying audiences in 1864, then flickering back to life on celluloid in 1913 and again in 1916—and later lured moviegoers into the shadows of The Temptress in 1920.
