Biography

Portland, Maine, welcomed William A. Tremayne on 26 November 1864, and by the early 1910s he had traded the Atlantic fog for the flicker of silent-film title cards. Between 1913 and 1915 his pen launched three one-reel stories onto the screen: the rose-strewn romance *Red and White Roses*, the snow-buried drama *The Avalanche*, and the royal solitude of *The Lonely Princess*. The final curtain fell on 2 December 1939 in Montreal, Quebec, closing the book on a life that helped shape cinema’s infancy.
