Biography
Born in the clang and clatter of 23 August 1882 Manhattan, William Kahn slipped silent stories onto the screen instead of onto the stage. Between 1919 and 1920 he stitched together three chapters of the German serial *Dämon der Welt*: first tracking *Edgar Morton’s Fate*, then unleashing the *Whirlwind of Ruin*, and finally uncorking *The Golden Poison*. Writer, director, conjurer of cliff-hangers—Kahn finished the tale in Hollywood, quietly closing his personal curtain on 14 May 1959.
