Biography
In 1878, a South Dakota prairie welcomed William Otis Lillibridge, a boy who would grow into a novelist before his thirtieth birthday. Between 1904 and 1909 he stitched the High Plains into prose, releasing the ranch-country saga *Where the Trail Divides* in 1914 and following it with the whip-crack tale *Ben Blair* two years later. A fatal illness cut his career short in 1909, but the ink of those two westerns—one a study of loyalty at a crossroads, the other a chronicle of redemption on the range—still carries his name across the prairie wind.
