Biography

W.W. Jacobs carved out a niche for himself as a masterful English storyteller, weaving intricate tales that often found their roots in the rugged vastness of the sea and the quaint charm of village life. His narratives frequently delved into the darker corners of the human experience, where the supernatural and horror lurked. Before finding his footing as a full-time wordsmith, Jacobs spent his days toiling away as a clerk, until the publication of his debut collection, "Many Cargoes", in 1896, marked a turning point in his career. It was, however, his 1902 masterpiece, "The Monkey's Paw", that would cement his legacy, as it told the haunting story of a cursed talisman that bestowed three wishes upon its owner, each coming with a terrible and inescapable cost.
