The Black Book Synopsis
Chapter 1 - Secret of the Vault Dora Blake (Allene Ray), posing as an art student, but secretly affiliated with the police, is watching enemies of her uncle, Tony LeBec (John Webb Dillon). She is loved by Ted Bradley (Walter Miller), a wealthy waster. When he is reduced to his last fifty dollars, he buys an interest in a taxicab driven by Tin Lung (Willie Fung). Sally Davis (Marie Mosquini), supposedly a model, but really a spy for Dora's enemies frames Dora with the story that a certain "Black Book", which is of value to Dora's uncle, lies in the Imperial vaults. Dora goes in search of it and Bradley, who has vainly sought to dissuade her, arrives just as police officer Sullivan, who has escorted Dora, is murdered. As Bradley, held by two crooks, watches, a hood is thrown over Dora's face and she is drawn out of sight by a great hand. To Be Continued- See Capter 2 - The Death Race.
The Great Shadow Synopsis
Jim McDonald, the foreman of a shipbuilding plant and head of the labor union, strives to combat the anarchistic propaganda being put forth by Klimoff, the leader of a Bolshevik gang whose goal is to disrupt the country with strikes and anarchy. Despite McDonald's efforts, a strike is called, resulting in chaos. McDonald's child is knocked down by runaway horses abandoned by their striking driver, and dies. Mob scenes take place in America, as well as in Russia. Eventually, the unrest is quelled with an armistice called between Capital and Labor for a year, during which time wages are to be increased to reflect the cost of living, and leaders are to work out a common plan for their mutual advantage. The strikers now realize that they have been pawns of the Bolsheviks and call off the strike, agreeing to the plan.
"The Black Book" holds a slight edge in general audience appreciation, but "The Great Shadow" offers its own unique cult appeal.
