The Woman He Married Synopsis
Natalie Lane, an artist's model, marries Roddy Warren, son of a steel magnate, who has been a persistent suitor and idler; but because she is considered an unsuitable match by his family, Roddy is disinherited. The couple are thus forced to give up their luxurious apartment for a cheap furnished room, and Roddy, inexperienced and totally unfitted for any kind of work, tries his hand, unsuccessfully, at writing plays. To help the domestic finances, Natalie, who has previously resisted the advances of Byrne Travers, a famous artist, agrees to pose for him. Roddy is unaware of this arrangement, but the elder Warren learns of Natalie's clandestine visits to the artist and informs his son; they discover Travers murdered in his apartment. Suspicion first rests on Natalie, but Mimi, a French model, jealous of Travers' attentions to Muriel, Roddy's sister, confesses that she shot him. Natalie, learning of Travers' scheming, protects Muriel. Roddy's father is convinced of Natalie's innocence and is reconciled to his son, who acquires a job with a theatrical agency.
When Do We Eat? Synopsis
Impersonating Little Eva in a third-rate travelling production of Uncle Tom's Cabin fails to earn Nora enough for a square daily meal, and to make thing worse, her stage career comes to a sudden end when the sheriff arrives with a writ of seizure. Nora hops a passing freight but is frightened by a tramp, jumps off, and literally rolls into the town of Wattelville. After being arrested as a suspicious character, Nora is adopted by the kindly Ma Forbes, whose son James works in the local bank. "Pug" Hennessy and "Soup" McCool, two crooks, inveigle the scrupulously honest James into a poker game and, as a result, he is forced to steal $300 from the bank to cover his losses. Impersonating expert safe-cracker Velvet Mary, Nora helps the crooks to break into the bank, but upon opening the safe, she sounds the alarm, and the crooks are arrested. Having learned his lesson, James proposes to Nora, who never again is forced to go hungry.
"When Do We Eat?" is currently leading in ratings, making it a stronger choice for newcomers to the genre.
