Biography
A Manhattan spring delivered Charles Horan on 6 April 1886, and the city’s restless streets became his first audience. Before long he swapped sidewalks for spotlights, spinning stories and stepping into characters that crackled across the silent screen—most memorably as the tormented lover in *Man’s Plaything* (1920), the schemer at the heart of *Love, Hate and a Woman* (1921), and the bruined romantic of *The Splendid Lie* (1922). Scripts, sets and California sun agreed with him until 11 January 1928, when the cameras stopped for good in Hollywood.
