Biography
Seventeen April 1879: Edinburgh greets a restless bundle named Donald MacKenzie. By his twenties he has swapped Scotland’s chill for the heat of klieg lights, stepping in front of—and then behind—the camera to guide three serials that still flicker in silent-film memory: the diamond-hunt cliff-hanger *The Seven Pearls* (1917), the sleuth whirlwind *The Carter Case* (1919), and the ominous *The Fatal Fortune* (1919). When the talkies arrived he slipped out of frame, leaving the screen but not the planet, settling finally across the Atlantic. MacKenzie’s last scene unfolded on 21 July 1972 in Jersey City, New Jersey, nearly a century after his first breath—proof that while reels fade, timelines endure.
