Biography
Toronto welcomed Henry MacRae on 29 August 1876, and by the early ’30s he was steering cliff-hangers through the Hollywood jungle. From jungle drums on Danger Island (1931) to the ticking mystery of The Lost Special (1932) and the sleuthing twists of Detective Lloyd (1932), MacRae produced and directed serials that kept Saturday-matinee crowds gasping for breath. Two marriages—first to Mary O’Neill, later to Margaret Oswald—book-ended a life spent coaxing thrills out of celluloid. The final reel rolled on 2 October 1944 in Beverly Hills, California, but the cliff-hangers he crafted still race across the screen.
