Biography
Roanoke, Virginia, greeted the world with John B. O’Brien on 13 December 1884, and from that Appalachian foothold he sprinted toward the flickering frontier of early cinema. By 1916 he was steering stories as both actor and director, turning Destiny’s Toy into a silent-era gem, then resurrecting moral quandaries in Father Tom (1921) and staging the high-stakes drama of The Handicap (1925). Los Angeles claimed him last, on 15 August 1936, but the reels he left behind still spin with his restless, pioneering energy.
