Biography
Lloyd B. Carleton entered the world in 1872 and spent the next six decades shaping silent-era cinema from both sides of the camera. Steering melodrama, myth and mountain adventure alike, he marshaled crews through the ghostly maritime legend of *The Flying Dutchman* (1923), toppled the emotional fortifications of *The Walls of Jericho* (1914) and chased high-altitude obsession in *Mountain Madness* (1920). The director-producer’s final curtain fell on 8 August 1933 in New York City, the metropolis that had long served as his professional playground.
