5.7/10
Senior Film Conservator

A definitive 5.7/10 rating for a film that redefined the boundaries of cult cinema. Dangerous Ground remains a cornerstone of transgressive art.
Honestly? Only if you have a very specific craving for old, dusty British crime flicks that feel like they were filmed in a quiet library. If you like fast-paced action, you will hate this. It is a slow, methodical crawl.
It is mostly for people who find comfort in the stiff upper lip dialogue of the era. If you are looking for grit, you are in the wrong place.
There is something inherently funny about insurance agents acting like they are in a hard-boiled thriller. They are so polite while talking about crime kingpins. It feels like watching an accountant try to solve a murder during a tea break. ☕
The pacing is… well, it is not fast. There is a lot of standing around. Sometimes the characters talk for so long about 'the plan' that I forgot what the plan actually was.
It lacks the punch of something like Under-Cover Man. It also doesn't have the weird, charm-filled energy of My Grandmother. It is just… there.
It is a movie that sits firmly in the middle of the road. It never offends, but it rarely wakes you up. It reminded me a bit of the quiet boredom in The Tenderfoot, but with less humor.
If you put this on while doing laundry, you won't feel like you missed much when you go to switch the load. It is a background noise movie. A very polite, very British background noise movie.
I caught myself staring at a loose piece of tape on the wall in one shot for entirely too long. Maybe the movie wanted me to look at it? Or maybe the set decorator just got tired. 🤷♂️
