Biography
In the Bay State of Massachusetts, 1886 marked the arrival of Alice Hollister, a convent-educated trailblazer who would soon captivate audiences with her on-screen presence. With a career spanning over 90 silent melodramas and crime films, this raven-haired siren is often regarded as the screen's inaugural 'vamp'. Her foray into the world of cinema began when she joined the Kalem Film Company, alongside her husband, the visionary cinematographer George K. Hollister. Under the guidance of Sidney Olcott, Alice made her debut in the 1911 film 'By a Woman's Wit', showcasing her talent to the world. However, it was her poignant portrayal of Mary Madeleine in the 1912 epic 'From the Manger to the Cross', filmed on location in Israel, that cemented her status as a leading lady. The following year, she starred in 'The Vampire's Trail', directed by Robert G. Vignola, further solidifying her reputation. Alice's cinematic journey culminated with her final appearance as Mrs. Mayne in the 1925 film 'The Dancers', directed by Emmett J. Flynn and starring George O'Brien, at the prestigious Fox Film Co.
