A winter baby born in Brooklyn on 7 February 1895, Anita Stewart stepped from brownstone shadows into klieg-light immortality. Between 1919’s *A Midnight Romance* and the same year’s *Her Kingdom of Dreams*, she spun silver-screen daydreams that sent audiences swooning; seven years later she braved the pines and passions of *The Lodge in the Wilderness*. Stewart didn’t stop at acting—she steered her own productions, wielding clout rare for women of the silent era. Along the way she exchanged vows with George Peabody Converse, then later with Rudolph Cameron. Her final curtain fell on 4 May 1961 in sun-washed Beverly Hills, but the flicker of her early cinematic magic still dances on celluloid.
