Biography
Born under the autumn skies of River Falls, Wisconsin on 18 October 1867, Anna Dodge grew up to light the silent screen with a steady, understated fire. Moviegoers remember her face from The White Medicine Man (1911), felt her heartbeat in The Rosary (1915), and heard the thunder of hooves beside her in The Kentucky Derby (1922). Off-camera she answered to two surnames—first to Thomas Campbell Dodge, later to fellow performer George Hernandez—yet the camera always knew her simply as Anna. Her final curtain fell in Los Angeles on 4 May 1945, but the flicker of her reels keeps her stubbornly, brilliantly alive.
