Bert Weston slipped into the world of flickering light and nitrate dreams early enough to haunt the silent era: 1915 found him brooding in the shadows of *The Raven*, two years later he was chasing justice in *The Saint’s Adventure*, and by 1932 he had checked into the talkie age with a key to *The New Hotel*.
