Biography
Blanche Forsythe stepped in front of the camera during the nickelodeon boom, slipping the corseted 1880s for the flickering 1910s. Signing with Barker Films around 1912, she made the past feel electric: trembling through East Lynne in 1913, braving the high-seas heartbreak of Jack Tar two years later, and giving her face—wide-eyed, resolute—to two eponymous heroines in 1915 and 1916, Jane Shore and the immortal She. Her final curtain fell in 1917 when, as Mary Turner in A Just Deception, she matched wits with Augustus Yorke under A. E. Coleby’s direction for I. B. Davidson, sealing a silent-era career that began when cinema itself was still learning to speak.
