The Rogues of London
Summary
Fog-slicked Thames embankments echo with footfalls of a cleric’s prodigal heir who, on a bruised dusk, snatches a housemaid from the indigo clutch of the river; she, in turn, when a scarlet-sashed courtesan’s corpse surfaces in Whitechapel, becomes the sole witness capable of unthreading the velvet noose tightening around his neck. Their reciprocated salvations—one spiritual, one juridical—ignite across gaslit rookeries, opium-laced parlors, and the marbled galleries of the Old Bailey, until innocence itself is auctioned to the highest bidder.
Synopsis
A cleric's son saves a maid from suicide and she saves him when he is framed for killing a crook's mistress.
