Biography
A Berkshire summer—20 July 1881—delivered Campbell Gullan to Reading, and from that quiet market town he would carve a path across the early British screen. By 1916 he had stepped before the cameras for Comin’ Thro’ the Rye, followed three years later by the taboo-shattering Damaged Goods, and in 1929 he helped send The Sky Hawk soaring into cinema history. Between takes he directed, shaped performances, and shared his life with actress Marie Elaine Sleddall. The final curtain fell on 1 December 1939 in Lambeth, London, closing a career that helped define the silent-to-sound transition.
