Biography
Born under the dome of the Capitol on 16 July 1888, Edith Luckett stepped straight from Washington’s marble hallways into the flicker of early Hollywood. Between 1914 and 1915 she slipped into three now-vanished silents—The Little Jewess, The Coming Power, and The Other Girl—each time vanishing again before the credits rolled. Off-screen she collected two surnames: first Kenneth Seymour Robbins, then the neurosurgeon Loyal Davis. A century after her first close-up she closed her own curtain in Phoenix, Arizona, on 26 October 1987, leaving behind a trail of nitrate ghosts and a city girl’s memories of the days when movies still whispered.
