Biography
A native of New York City born on February 27, 1882, Emily Stevens was the daughter of Robert E. Stevens, a prominent stage director who later co-helmed the 1919 film Out of the Fog. Emily spent her early career mastering the theater before venturing into the world of cinema at age thirty-three. She made her motion picture debut as the titular lead in the 1915 production Cora, and further demonstrated her versatility that same year by tackling a dual role in The House of Tears. However, because she entered the industry as a mature actress, she struggled to capture the sustained interest of studio heads and the movie-going public. Her silver screen journey concluded at the age of thirty-eight with 1920’s The Place of the Honeymoons. On January 2, 1928, Emily’s life was cut short by a heart attack in her home city of New York; she was only forty-six years old.
