Biography
Berlin, 19 September 1885: Ernst Reicher enters the world just as the flicker of moving pictures is about to ignite. By his mid-thirties he is both in front of the lens and behind it, shaping stories that dart through the chaos of post-war German cinema. Audiences watch him swagger as the con-man “George Bully” (1920), plunge into the abyss of Der Sprung ins Dunkle the same year, and later unravel a visual puzzle in Camera obscura (1921). Off-screen he teams up with actress Stella Harf; together they weather the shifting tides of the industry. When the lights dim across Europe, Reicher retreats to Prague, where he dies quietly on 1 May 1936, leaving behind a reel of shadows that still flicker in archives today.
