Biography
A velvet-voiced Roman who stepped before the camera in cinema’s infancy, Ettore Baccani left flickering traces of himself in three early Italian milestones: the simian suspense of *La mano della scimmia* (1913), the patriotic opera of *Germania* (1914), and the heartbreak of *Adriana Lecouvreur* (1919). Within weeks of that last release, on 26 October 1919, death closed the curtain on his career in the same city that had watched him rise—Rome, Lazio.
