Biography
Born in Paris on 19 April 1891, Françoise Rosay first drew breath in the city that would later cheer her every screen appearance. A performer and author, she bewitched audiences as the burgomaster’s wife in Carnival in Flanders (1935), moved them to tears in Nobody’s Children (1951), and lingered as the enigmatic hostess of The Halfway House (1944). Off-screen, she shared her life—and four decades of creative partnership—with director Jacques Feyder. Her final curtain fell on 28 March 1974 in Montgeron, Essonne, but the lights she kindled in cinema still glow.
