Biography
San Francisco welcomed Frank McGlynn Sr. on 26 October 1866, and by the 1930s he had become Hollywood’s go-to face for granite-jawed authority. Whether directing behind the camera or scowling across it, he stamped Little Miss Marker (1934), Captain Blood (1935) and The Plainsman (1936) with his trademark steel. Off-screen, Rose O’Byrne stood beside the man who could out-stare a cavalry charge. He took his final bow on 18 May 1951 in Newburgh, New York, leaving behind a legacy etched as firmly as the frontier characters he once brought to life.
