Biography
Before the talkies took over, Gabriel Briand stalked the flickering dark: in 1911 he carved L’homme de peine out of nitrate and shadow; three years later he mounted the entire Passion for The Life of Our Saviour, a 1914 pageant that made Bethlehem glow on silent screens; and by 1921 he asked audiences to Behold the Man once more, reframing the gospel for a changed world.
