Biography
Born under the gaslight of Manhattan on 9 November 1887, George A. Grimmer traded the clang of the city’s trolleys for the hush of film sets. Between 1913 and 1920 he slipped from assistant-director duties into the glow of the lens, leaving fingerprints on The Lost Combination, Joseph in the Land of Egypt, and the 1920 political pot-boiler The Key to Power. Off-screen he shared his life with a woman named Agnes—her surname never made the crawl. Fifty-one years after his final fade-out, the city that first heard his cry claimed him again; he died there in April 1974.
