Biography

Born within the roar of turn-of-the-century Manhattan on 16 March 1889, George Walsh traded city sidewalks for silver-screen swashbuckling. Audiences first thrilled to him as A Manhattan Knight (1920), then galloped beside him through American Pluck (1925) and waltzed into Viennese romance in The Count of Luxembourg (1926). Between takes he doubled as an assistant director, quietly shaping the shots that would make him famous. Off-set, he claimed the heart of silent-star Seena Owen; the vows lasted longer than any reel. Nearly a century after his first close-up, Walsh took his final bow in Pomona, California, on 13 June 1981.
