Biography
Born under the Campanian sun on 5 July 1889, Giulio Donadio sprang from the ancient stones of Santa Maria Capua Vetere to make the world his stage. Within two dizzying years he slipped from behind the camera as director to in front of it as leading man, animating silent reels: the verdant romance of *La bella giardiniera* (1919), the dust-and-dream scramble of *I cercatori d’oro* (1920), and the futuristic whispers of *Il microfono del selenio* (1920). The Tiber finally claimed him on 15 June 1951, but Rome keeps his flicker alive every time the lights go down.
