Biography
Rutland, New York, welcomed Harold Howard into the world on 22 August 1870, and the footlights soon beckoned. By 1915 he was already chasing laughs in the brisk one-reeler *Stop Thief!*, and two decades later he swapped slapstick for South-Seas swagger in *Captain Calamity*. In 1940 he stepped even further back in time, grunting his way through prehistoric peril in *One Million B.C.* Howard’s final curtain fell on 9 December 1944 at the Motion Picture Country House in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, closing a career that spanned silent comedy, serial adventure, and dinosaur epics.
