Biography
Harry von Meter entered the world on 29 March 1871 amid the river-bottom farmland of Malta Bend, Missouri. A quarter-century later he stepped before the camera, lending his angular frame and steady gaze to the one-reel parables of the early silent era—most memorably in *The Last Supper* and *His Faith in Humanity*, both released in 1914, and again two years later as the stalwart lead of *Lillo of the Sulu Seas*. When the talkies arrived he slipped quietly from the screen, living out his last decades in the veterans’ community of Sawtelle, California, where he died on 2 June 1956.
