Biography

December 1868 found Henry West welcomed by the clang of Manhattan streetcars and gas-lit marquees; the city’s restless pulse became the heartbeat of his future craft. By 1915 he had stepped before the camera as the doomed foreign secretary in *The Dictator*, trading stage boards for celluloid and proving that a granite jawline could speak louder than dialogue. Four years later he slipped into the shadows of *The Poison Pen*, letting paranoia flicker behind his eyes, and in 1926 he hammered out a performance as a rivet-driving foreman in *Men of Steel*, sweat and soot etched into every frame. Off-screen, the spotlight turned to Amelia G., his wife and quiet collaborator through every studio upheaval. On a winter morning in 1936, the Connecticut coast claimed him; Henry West died in Norwalk on 29 January, leaving behind a reel of steel-town grit, political intrigue, and ink-black mystery that still flickers in archive vaults today.
