Biography
Detroit, 1868: the year Horace Haine first drew breath, already rehearsing the faces he would later flash on-screen. By 1917 he had stepped before the cameras to play a frantic father in *Kidnapped*, followed by the courtroom storms of *The Woman of Lies* (1919) and the scalding secrets of *The Truth* (1920). Off-set he shared his life with actress Maude LeRoy, the only co-star who ever got top billing in his heart. The curtain finally fell on 26 September 1940 in New York, closing a seventy-two-year performance that moved from Michigan streets to flickering nickelodeons and into the enduring dark of cinema history.
