Biography
A Glasgow winter welcomed Ivan F. Simpson on 4 February 1875, and from that Scottish chill he carried a talent that would warm movie screens around the world. Audiences came to know his face through the swashbuckling courts of *The Adventures of Robin Hood* (1938), the tempest-tossed decks of *Mutiny on the Bounty* (1935), and the shadowed alleys of Puritan Salem in *Maid of Salem* (1937). The curtain fell for the last time on 12 October 1951 in New York City, closing a career that had journeyed from Scotland to Hollywood and into cinema history.
