Biography
A restless spark ignited in Manhattan on 12 May 1885: J. Herbert Frank slipped onto the Lower East Side stage and never looked back. Within two years he was trading Broadway boards for the flicker of Fort Lee cameras, carving a nickelodeon name for himself as the schemer in *Destruction* (1915), the corrupt senator in *Scandal* (1917), and the fast-talking promoter in *Up and at ’Em* (1922). Audiences knew the cock of his fedora and the flash of his smile before the titles even rolled. On 7 March 1926, the lights dimmed for good in a Los Angeles hospital room, but the reels keep spinning, preserving the quicksilver energy of a New Yorker who conquered silent Hollywood one frame at a time.
