Biography
A Missouri river town greeted Jim Blackwell’s first cry on 6 June 1876, and by the time flickering nickelodeons began to charm the nation he had traded Richmond’s quiet streets for the flicker of klieg lights. Between 1914 and 1924 he slipped into three very different skins: the tormented title character of The Only Son, the reckless heart at the center of Desperate Youth, and the rugged leading man wandering through Love’s Wilderness. When the final curtain fell on 27 September 1932, the screen went dark on a performer whose face once spelled adventure for silent-era audiences.
