Biography
José Durany stepped before the camera when cinema itself was still learning to breathe: in 1916 he surfaced in *La secta de los misteriosos*, helping usher Spanish silent film into its infancy. Four years later he stared down disgrace—literally—in *El oprobio*, carrying the picture’s moral weight through the flicker of black-and-white reels. His final documented performance arrived in 1926 with *La réponse du destin*, a Franco-Spanish co-production that closed the curtain on a career forged in the pioneering days of European cinema.
