Biography
On Midsummer’s Eve, 1875, a boy with a name like a trumpet blast—Julius Hälsig—entered the world in the coastal town of Ängelholm, Sweden. By 1915 he had slipped behind the camera as an assistant director while still haunting the screen himself, helping to shape two of that year’s most talked-about Nordic thrillers: the espionage caper *Mästertjuven* and the shadow-drenched mystery *Dolken*. A year later he stepped in front of the lens again for *Kiss of Death*, sealing his brief but indelible mark on silent-era cinema. Six decades after his first breath, on 17 February 1955, the curtain quietly fell.
