Biography
Chicago greeted Kathryn Browne-Decker on 14 August 1883, and by her early thirties she had stepped into the new glow of silent film, lending her poise to The Closing Net and The Beloved Vagabond (both 1915) and, two years later, to Mary Pickford’s The Pride of the Clan. Fame, however, was a short story: on 11 February 1919, while traveling, she drew her final breath in Colombo, Ceylon—today’s Sri Lanka—leaving behind only a handful of flickering frames and the echo of a career just begun.
