Biography
Lafe McKee rode into Hollywood about 1913 and never really left the saddle. For three decades he was the silver-screen West’s eternal silver-haired anchor: the heroine’s patient pa, the banker clutching ledgers while the mortgage burns, the rancher watching rustlers circle his last patch of dust. Cowboys like Gary Cooper, John Wayne, Gene Autry, Tim McCoy, and Tom Tyler drew their six-guns; McKee drew sympathy—and did it in more westerns than most people have birthdays.
