Biography
Born under the Roman sun on 10 March 1892, Leda Gys stepped from the capital’s cobblestones onto flickering silent-era screens, bewitching audiences as the fragile seamstress of La Bohème (1917), the anguished mother in I figli di nessuno (1921), and a haunting presence in the biblical epic Christus (1916). Off-camera, she shared her life with producer Gustavo Lombardo. After four decades of lighting dreams, she slipped back into the Eternal City’s light on 2 October 1957, leaving the projectors still humming her name.
