Biography
Born Louise Carbasse, her theatrical journey began precociously at age nine, gracing the stage as Little Eva in a production of 'Uncle Tom's Cabin'. Her talent blossomed, propelling her into the nascent world of silent films. After captivating Australian audiences, her success paved the way for a move to America, where she secured a coveted contract with Universal Studios. It was none other than Universal's visionary head, Carl Laemmle, who famously christened her with the unforgettable moniker, 'Louise Lovely'. Legend has it that upon witnessing her screen test, he exclaimed, "She's lovely in her work and in herself. Call her Louise Lovely." This pivotal moment cemented her new identity and launched her into cinematic stardom. She went on to feature in numerous Universal Studios productions. However, the studio's proprietary hold extended beyond her contract; upon its conclusion, they controversially threatened legal action should she dare to use the name 'Louise Lovely' while working for any other film company.
