Biography
Auckland, 1881: the curtain rose on Maisie Carte’s first scene long before footlights ever found her. By 1915 she had stepped before the camera, lending her fire to the silent-era bushranger tale *The Loyal Rebel*, a single credit that still flickers in cinema archives. After the shoot she slipped back into the city’s everyday rhythm, living out her remaining decades in the same harbor-laced streets where her story began. On 22 June 1956 the final reel rolled in the town that had always been her only stage.
