Biography
Born under the gas-lights of New Orleans on 18 September 1879, Mathilde Baring traded the humid lullaby of Louisiana for the crackle of early movie sets when the medium itself was still learning to walk. Within three short years she stepped before the camera for the biblical pageant The Holy City (1912), followed by the mountain-drama The Pines of Lorey (1914) and the comic caper McGinty and the Count (1915), leaving flickering proof of a talent that bloomed with the industry’s first reels. She slipped from public view decades later, closing her final scene in 1954 somewhere on the vast American map she once roamed for work.
